PPA's are the only way to ensure you get the latest fully updated Hauppauge drivers, no matter which Ubuntu you are running. PPA makes it easy to install Hauppauge TV tuners with Ubuntu. In addition, if you are using one of the Hauppauge DVB TV tuners (DVB-T2, DVB-T, DVB-C and DVB-S tuners), our PPA is required in order to add the necessary firmware to enable DVB TV reception in Ubuntu. While the latest Impish version of Ubuntu includes pre-configured support for Hauppauge North America TV tuners, Hauppauge still recommends the use of the PPA with Ubuntu to make sure changes to the Linux Media Tree, which include bug fixes, are correctly incorporated into your Ubuntu system.
